    LCFS of Michigan is a non-profit corporation that provides a range of services for children and families. Services are available through multiple service sites located in the lower peninsula of Michigan. Programs incorporate prevention, intervention and treatment components to provide a continuum of care.

    LCFS of Michigan provides services in foster care, family preservation, family life education, counseling, teen parent services, residential placement, and adoption. The agency provides services to thousands of individuals each year.

    Is LCFS of Michigan Accredited?


    LCFS of Michigan is accredited by the national Council on Accreditation. The agency holds memberships in the Alliance for Children and Families, Lutheran Services in America (one of the largest human care networks in the USA), and the Michigan Federation of Private Child and Family Agencies.

    Do I have to be Lutheran to receive services?

    LCFS of Michigan provides services to individuals regardless of race, creed, gender or economic status.

    I was adopted years ago through LCFS. Can I find out who my biological parents are?

     

    You may request information from the agency that placed you or the court that finalized your adoption. You must submit a request for identifying or non-identifying information in writing.

    Release of non-identifying information to an adult adoptee must be released within 63 days of request.

    Release of identifying information to an adult adoptee is different depending on when parental rights were terminated.

    A. Before May 28, 1945 or on or after September 12, 1980

    You can obtain your name and the names of biological siblings at the time of termination if a birth parent has not filed a statement of denial with Central Adoption Registry (CAR).

    You can obtain identifying information on any birth parent who has not filed a statement of denial with CAR.

    B. On or After May 28, 1945 but before September 12, 1980.

    You can obtain your name, the names of biological siblings at the time of termination, and identifying information on both birth parents if both parents have filed statements of consent to release identifying information in CAR.

    You can obtain your name, the names of biological siblings at the time of termination and identifying information on one birth parent if that parent has filed a statement of consent in CAR.

    You can obtain your name, the names of biological siblings at the time of termination and the name of a deceased birth parent.

    What do "Faith-Based" and "Christian Heritage" mean with respect to your organization?

     

    The formation of the agency was the result of a resolution of the Michigan District, Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod and the Saginaw Valley Pastors' Conference. LCFS of Michigan was established in 1899 in Bay City, Michigan by Lutheran clergy and lay people concerned with the welfare of children.

     

    What is LCFS of Michigan's Relationship to the Church?

    LCFS of Michigan is a recognized service organization (RSO) of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod. This means that the agency follows specific guidelines and philosophies in the provision of services. Though recognized by the church, LCFS of Michigan does not receive direct funding from the Synod or the Michigan District. LCFS of Michigan relies on the generosity of individuals and congregations who reach out to help others as Christ reached out to mankind. A primary objective of the agency is to respond in Christian love by providing programs to assist people in need.
