True Story
LCFS of Michigan became involved with a family of three - a dad and his two sons. They needed our help after the oldest boy got into trouble in school and the community. Dad had struggled for some time to keep his family together after his wife's death.
But, things went from bad to worse.
Now, with our help, this downward spiral has not only ceased, but been reversed. The youngest boy, with a renewed sparkle in his eyes and happiness in his voice, spoke of their Thanksgiving. "My brother was able to come home. My dad cooked. He cooked turkey, mashed potatoes and peas. I love peas, they are my favorite!" His social worker later shared with me that he hadn't had peas since his mom's death.
Perhaps it doesn't seem like much when a child becomes so excited about peas or a meal together with his dad and brother. But the obstacles this family had to overcome for this to happen were numerous. Their journey began with a devastating loss. Now, with our help, they are again achieving, and experiencing joy and laughter in their lives and in their hearts.
Accomplishments, whether on a small scale or a large scale, are a reason to give thanks. Thanks to God for helping the family reunite. Thanks to our staff for intervening in the families' darkest hour. Thanks to people like you who support our work.
The challenge of helping others will never diminish. That's okay. In fact, that's good. For it is in helping others that we become enriched and renewed. I believe that is part of God's plan. He is always looking out for us. Perhaps that is the reason He asks us to look out for others.
