Ray Scott Inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame
LCFS of Michigan's own Ray Scott was honored at the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Monday, February 11, 2008 at the Max Fisher Music Center. The honorees were not fazed by the zero degree temperatures, taking time to greet their fans. LCFS of Michigan has always known that Ray is a "star," and we are so happy that he has received this recognition.
Ray's career path is one that most of us can only dream about. Before coming to LCFS of Michigan, Ray was a professional basketball player and later in his career, coach of the Detroit Pistons. Ray played six seasons with the Detroit Pistons and he also played for the Baltimore Bullets and the Virginia Squires. After his playing days, Ray went on to become the head coach of the Detroit Pistons and was honored in 1974 as the NBA Coach of the year for leading the Pistons to a 52 win season.
Since those days, Ray has become involved with LCFS of Michigan as a Director of Development. His current efforts give him the ability to help those in our society who have the greatest needs, our children. What a great calling! LCFS of Michigan is an organization that helps children and their families deal with life-altering and spiritually challenging issues, caused by abuse, neglect, poverty, family turmoil and conflict.
We are very proud of you Ray.
Detroit Tigers Support LCFS of Michigan's Kids

On Monday, January 14th the Detroit Tigers made Lutheran Child & Family Service of Michigan and Boys & Girls Republic in Farmington Hills a stop on their 2008 Winter Caravan Tour. "Paws" the mascot entertained the audience and took photos with fans as the players arrived. Detroit Tigers Jeff Jones, Nate Robertson, Clay Rapada, Jim Leyland, Jeremy Bonderman, Don Willis and announcer Rod Allen shared their experiences and their hopes for the '08 season.
It was inspirational for our kids to get to ask the players how they got their start, or what player inspired them. The event was open to the public and about 200 friends of LCFS of Michigan and Boys & Girls Republic attended. The event concluded with a banner that was presented to the team to be taken back to Comerica Park. It was a wonderful opportunity for our kids to see their favorite players and be motivated by positive role models.
Thank you Tigers!
Church Extension Fund Matches Gifts
Dollar-For-Dollar
The Challenge
Church Extension Fund, Michigan District of the LC-MS has issued LCFS of Michigan and our supporters the challenge to raise $10,000 before December 15, 2007 for our Children are a Work of Art program. Please help us meet this challenge.
The theme for the Children are a Work of Art program is, "with life as the canvas, children create glorious works of art…but first they need a chance." Many of the children in our foster care program and residential facilities are reluctant or unable to express themselves verbally. Reaching them through this program often helps children achieve results sooner than traditional methods, such as counseling and psychotherapy. The LCFS of Michigan staff realizes that art and art therapy enhances traditional therapeutic approaches by helping children to release and express their deep-seated feelings, emotions and experiences.
Would you like to double the benefit of your gift? Would you like your gift to have twice the impact? Act now. Please consider making a gift before December 15, 2007. Send your donation to LCFS of Michigan, PO Box 48, Bay City, Michigan 48707-0048 and write CEF Challenge Grant on the memo line of your check or with your credit card information.

Golfer Gets $10,000 Hole-In-One at Annual Golf Outing

For the first time in LCFS Golf Outing history, someone has won one of the hole-in-one contests. Doug Kahl, pictured here with witness Yanarnay Torre from our New Directions facility and CEO Robert Miles, got the hole-in-one on number 7 at Bay Valley Resort in Bay City, Michigan.
This was a great end to a picture perfect day for the LCFS Annual Golf Outing, where golfers had a great time on great course while raising money to help children and families. Check back later for more photos and updates from the event.
If interesting in playing or contributing to the success of next year's outing or other events sponsored by LCFS of Michigan, contact Dawn White at dwhite@lcfsmi.org or 989-686-7650.
