Foster Care
Each year, LCFS serves more than 650 children in agency supervised foster homes. Most of these children have been temporarily removed from their families because of abuse and/or neglect. They are in desperate need of nurturing families and stable homes.
LCFS strives to meet that need by offering immediate, 24-hour foster care placement for children.
State Ward Adoptions
Approximately 70% of Michigan’s state ward (parental rights permanently terminated) adoptions occur with foster families. LCFS specializes in this type of adoption through Lutheran Adoption Service.
Becoming a Foster Parent
Many people are qualified to be licensed as foster parents: single, married, young or old, regardless of race or church affiliation.
LCFS professionals involve prospective foster parents in developing a plan of care for each foster child in their home and offer foster parents ongoing training and continued support.
LCFS provides 24-hour access to foster care staff. In crisis situations, foster families and children have immediate access to support.
