Pailalen
Pailalen- "To Be In Peace"
Pailalen is a parent training group provided in the West Region of Lutheran Child & Family Service of Michigan (LCFS) using a curriculum developed by Dr. Marilyn Steele, PhD from Parenting Across Cultures in Los Angeles, California.
The name Pailalen comes from an indigenous language of South America and means "to be in peace."
This name was chosen by LCFS staff to represent the desire for peace within our families, our communities and ultimately, our world. The curriculum is designed to provide the skills to parents to bring peace into their lives and families, and in turn bring peace to their communities.
The Latino parents who participate in the program have expressed appreciation for the honor given to the cultural roots of their parenting approach. Woven through the program are the following components:
- Cultural/Spiritual
- Rites of Passage
- Enhacing Relationships
- Positive Discipline
- Community Involvement
