Nestled in the serenity of the trees on Boys and Girls Republic's campus is a foot bridge stretching 220 feet from the residential cottages to the activity area: school, dining hall, auditorium, recreation complex. For the thousands of young people who have resided at BGR, that bridge symbolizes their treatment, because BGR is about building bridges - to home and family, school and community. For thousands of young people who have crossed the bridge - and for those to come - BGR connects them to a better, brighter future.
Boys and Girls Republic's program is designed for young people ages 12 to 18 who are delinquent, have suffered abuse / neglect or have serious emotional problems. Youth are referred by the Department of Human Services, Care Management Organizations, Community Mental Health and County Juvenile Courts. Private referrals are also accepted.
At BGR, an individualized treatment plan is developed for each youth. Caring staff work closely with each girl and boy to provide a secure, nurturing environment for our residents. Youth participate in both group and individual counseling sessions. Highly structured, staff-directed small group sessions are held five days a week. Family therapy, academic education, therapeutic recreation, pre-vocational training and work experience complete the youth's schedule. Medical and dental services for the youth are coordinated by the agency's Health Services staff.
BGR's campus features residences, a dining hall/ community building, school, offices and a recently expanded gymnasium which houses an updated gym, new weight room, game room, library, and cooking lab. Outdoor recreational facilities include the Adventure Challenge Course, swimming pool, tennis courts and playing fields.
